Unique Qualities
A Libyan Desert Glass tektite ideal for crafting into a piece of custom jewelry, this specimen has inclusions of sand particles, and unusual high temperature minerals including cristobalite, a rare form of quartz, as well as grains of zirconia and Lechatelierite, the pure mineraloid form of silica which forms during high impact events. Libyan Desert Glass is still relatively unknown and hard to procure. As a gemstone, it has a hardness similar to quartz, in the range of 6.5 - 7 Mohs. Because it is 95% silica and has good translucency, it can be cut and polished. Beautiful swirling patterns of Lechatelierite and inclusions of zirconia and cristobilite define its unique appearance and tell-tale cosmic origins.

Libyan Desert Glass Tektite is one of only two gem-grade Tektites on the planet. Libyan Desert Glass has colors like that of its sandy source material of nearly pure silica, ranging from light yellow to deep golden color tones.

Libyan Desert Tektite embodies the golden rays of the sun.
